UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR HOMEOWNERSHIP – NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

Neighbor Impact CheckFirst Story, Hayden Homes and NeighborImpact Continue to Work Together for Housing Affordability in Sisters

Redmond, Ore. — The non-profit, First Story, is once again providing a hand-up to homeownership to Sisters residents through a unique partnership with Hayden Homes and NeighborImpact. The homes will be constructed by Hayden Homes in their McKenzie Meadows community and sold through First Story’s 30-year non-interest loan program.

To become eligible to apply for a home, applicants must first complete the Homebuyer Education Class and a home buying counseling session through NeighborImpact. Virtual classes are available monthly starting in October. Completion of the Homebuyer Education Class is not a guarantee of an interview or selection for housing.

“We are proud to support NeighborImpact, with a $5,000 donation, to help ensure their services continue to be accessible to those in the community,” said Deborah Flagan, Vice President of Community Engagement at Hayden Homes. “We recognize there are barriers that can prevent families from achieving homeownership and believe this Homebuyer Education class provides a welcoming environment for all families to learn about the home buying journey, including valuable tools to cultivate and maintain financial wellness.”

First Story, Hayden Homes, Neighborlmpact and the City of Sisters began this special project in 2019 to provide affordable homeownership opportunities in Sisters. Six families, graduates of NeighborImpact’s HomeSource Program, have been welcomed home with special key ceremonies.

In 2022, homes will be available with three bedrooms, two baths and a two-car garage. Homes will be sold move-in ready with appliances, washer and dryer, window blinds and a landscaped yard and prices will be based on HUD standards for affordability at 80% of area median income and sold through First Story’s zero-interest, 30-year no down-payment home loan program.

“The zero down payment requirement as well as the fact that credit scores are not required as a determining factor, encourages many to apply that would normally be restricted due to these mortgage thresholds,” said Claire Duncan, Executive Director of First Story.  “First Story is a testament to the giving spirit of our community and the positive results that come when we work together on creative solutions.

HAYDEN HOMES RECOGNIZES 2020 SISTERS HIGH SCHOOL ART SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT 2021 SCHOLARSHIP WINNER TO BE ANNOUNCED IN MAY

Dan Schmidt 2020 Hayden Homes Scholarship WinnerSisters, Ore.— Hayden Homes is proud to recognize Daniel Schmidt of Sisters High School as the recipient of the 2020 Hayden Homes $2,500 Art Scholarship. A committee comprised of Hayden Homes team members and the Sisters Arts Association selected Daniel’s artwork as the winning concept. His artwork showcases a beautiful wood sculpture that depicts motions of nature and the patterns of a snow drift.

“I was backcountry skiing when the idea suddenly struck me,” said Daniel Schmidt, artist and scholarship winner. “I had just poked into an untouched meadow of beauteous wind drifts with other worldly visual energy. I think this is very applicable to northwest landscape as it is one of the elements that makes the northwest distinctly the northwest.”

Daniel’s artwork is on display at the Hayden Homes McKenzie Meadows Village model home through May of this year. If community members are interested in seeing Daniel’s artwork, please call 541-904-0060 for an appointment.

“We know arts are an essential building block in the schools and are of great value to the Sisters community,” said Chris Davis, Regional Director for Hayden Homes.  “It is our honor to collaborate with Sisters High School, Sisters Arts Association and Sisters GRO to showcase the incredible talent of Sisters Country youth through this scholarship. Daniel’s art adds the perfect touch to our model home, and we are excited to be able to showcase such a unique piece.”

Daniel Schmidt is a 2020 Graduate of Sisters High School. Daniel chose to take a gap year after graduation due to COVID-19, but is considering Colorado College, University of British Columbia, CU Boulder, or Whitman as options for his college career.

“It truly feels unreal to have such a supportive community willing to invest in my future” said Daniel. “Hayden Homes Art Scholarship was an incredible opportunity that I am thankful to have received. It makes me feel good knowing that my artwork is on display in their model home responsible for attracting so many of the new families of Sisters.”

The 2021 Hayden Homes $2,500 Art Scholarship winner will be selected in May. Applications were managed through Sisters Gro, a graduate resource organization with a mission to raise, receive and distribute charitable scholarship funds, support the scholarship selection process, and support graduate resource programs to help Sisters High School graduates obtain higher education or training.

“It is because of the generous support from local donors and companies like Hayden Homes that Sisters GRO is able to provide substantial financial assistance to Sisters High School students pursuing post-secondary education,” said Lauran Kloss, Program Director for Sisters GRO. “The scholarships celebrate the accomplishments and perseverance of the young people in our community and empower them to continue to learn and grow and reach for their dreams. Daniel is a great example of a local student who worked hard and received a number of Sisters GRO scholarships, without which he may not have had the ability to attend his school of choice and desired program.”

THREE LOCAL FAMILIES RECEIVE WARM WELCOME HOME

First Story Dedicates Three Homes to families in Sisters OregonFirst Story and Hayden Homes Announces Three Additional Homes Will Be Available in 2021

(SISTERS, Ore.)— First Story, Hayden Homes, NeighborImpact and other local partners collaborated to help three families move into their new homes in Sisters. A special, social distancing, key dedication took place and was attended by the City of Sisters and members of the Hayden Homes and First Story teams.

“All three families are the first in their families to own their own home,” Duncan said. Two of the three families currently live and work in Sisters. The nonprofit First Story along with NeighborImpact, reached out to the Sisters community to seek applicants and to help prospective homeowners prepare for the responsibilities of homeownership. The first three families are graduates of Neighborlmpact’s HomeSource Program. Each family is grateful for the safety, health and happiness that owning a home brings.

The non-profit, First Story, is addressing the affordable housing crisis through an integrated approach that focuses on providing a hand-up to homeownership. First Story, Hayden Homes, Neighborlmpact and the City of Sisters have come together for this special project in order to provide affordable homeownership opportunities in Sisters.

Among the homes built in the three-phase Hayden Homes community, McKenzie Meadows Village, will be 10 homes dedicated to affordable housing for families qualifying at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) threshold of 80 percent or below of Adjusted Median Income (AMI). The homes are sold through First Story’s, Hayden Homes’ nonprofit charitable arm, 30-year non-interest loan program.

“What we’re doing in Sisters is the largest, most impactful project the nonprofit has ever done,” said First Story Executive Director Claire Duncan. The three families received their keys to their First Story homes in the initial phase of the project, which is expected to take three years to complete.

First Story’s affordable loan program provides zero-down, zero-interest, 30-year loans to qualified individuals purchasing their first home. They are 1,058 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. They come with appliances, air conditioning, fencing and landscaping in place.

First Story and Hayden Homes will collaborate on three more homes in 2021. If you are interested in learning more please visit: https://www.firststory.org/own-a-home.

LOCAL NONPROFIT, THE GIVING PLATE, SURPRISED WITH $25,000 DONATION

Hayden Homes Surprises the Giving Plate with a $25,000 DonationREDMOND, Ore. — Hayden Homes surprised The Giving Plate with a $25,0000 donation in support of their mission of feeding our neighbors in need. Additionally, the funds will support The Giving Plate’s strategic organizational initiatives needed to ensure they can continue providing food to those in need, such as offering home delivery services.

“We recognize the very real fact that many in our own community are facing hunger and food insecurity every day and even more so now with the Coronavirus pandemic,” said Hayden Watson, Chairman of Hayden Homes. “We appreciate having a local resource, like The Giving Plate, that is committed to ensuring those in our community have access to the basic need of food and nutrition.”

Between 2010 to date, The Giving Plate has distributed 4 million pounds of food in Central Oregon and is currently the only food bank in Oregon that has a youth-specific food bank, Kid’s Korner. The Giving Plate provided 8,697 food bags of nutrient-dense food to children in 2019 through Kid’s Korner food pantry, which is separate from the family monthly food boxes. Nearly 85% of the guests that visit The Giving Plate do not qualify as homeless.  They have homes and jobs—yet they are living paycheck to paycheck doing their best to make ends meet.

“At The Giving Plate, we are experiencing a fairly substantial increase in need for food-relief services compared to 2019,” said Ranae Staley, Executive Director of The Giving Plate. “The Coronavirus pandemic threw a curveball that none of us expected, but in the midst of the chaos and increased need, we have seen such beauty and generosity from our community.  Hayden Homes is a part of that beauty.  In addition to this donation, they have faithfully packed our Kid’s Korner bags for us every Tuesday during COVID-19. We couldn’t be more grateful for the support that Hayden Homes has provided us.  Together we are fighting hunger and feeding hope.”

Hayden Homes is grateful for the work our community partners, like The Giving Plate, do each day. We believe the best way to truly thank them is to reflect on our relationship and expand the shared values that help us build a stronger community, together.

“We’ve been dreaming and working towards owning a home for almost 20 years,” says Debra Donati and Nathan Barbeau. “We saved every extra penny that came our way and we even postponed getting married. Unfortunately, as we inched closer, Nate was in a devastating hit and run and our dream slipped away. First Story gave us hope again.”

“I’ve been doing everything I can – saving & working hard- to raise my family in my hometown of Sisters,” says Jacob Christensen. “But, it’s so expensive that it meant my family of 6 sharing one bedroom at my Mom’s house. So, we were forced to move, and our daughter now spends over an hour commuting to school each day. Next year, thanks to First Story, she will walk to school.”

“As a single-dad, I work hard day in and day out to provide the best life for my son, Conner. Moving to Sisters means he will finally know something other than apartment living and what being a part of a community means,” says Nathaniel Grimes.
