HAYDEN HOMES, FIRST STORY AND CITY OF MIDDLETON MAYOR, STEVEN RULE, HELP LOCAL FAMILY RAISE THE WALLS OF THEIR NEW HOME

(Middleton, ID)— In response to the growing need for affordable housing, the non-profit, First Story, Hayden Homes, the City of Middleton and other local partners are collaborating to help a local family move into a new home in Middleton. A special, social distancing, wall raising event was attended by the Wood family, City of Middleton Mayor, Steven Rule and members of the Hayden Homes and First Story teams.

“As Mayor, I was very proud to participate in interviewing the Wood family and being a part of their dream of homeownership,” said Steven Rule, City of Middleton Mayor. “Thank you again for letting Middleton, and myself, be a part of this great and benevolent program. I am honored and rewarded at the same time.”

The non-profit, First Story, is addressing the affordable housing crisis through an integrated approach that focuses on providing a hand-up to homeownership. First Story, Hayden Homes and the City of Middleton have come together for this special project in order to provide affordable homeownership opportunities in Middleton. Numerous donors have contributed to the Wood family’s new home,  including the City of Middleton’s donation of water and sewer hookup fees. The home is being constructed by Hayden Homes in their Sawtooth Lakes community and sold through First Story’s 30-year non-interest loan program.

After years of hard work and education through NeighborWorks Boise, the Wood family is breaking the cycle of poverty and becoming the first members of their families to own a home. After moving 14 times in 16 years, the Wood family can’t wait to unpack their boxes for good.  “We are grateful for the safety, health and happiness that owning a home brings. As parents, homeownership is the dream of breaking the cycle of living with the poverty spirit,” said Kenny and Amber Wood, homeowners.

A special key ceremony and welcome home celebration will take place for the families in October.

HAYDEN HOMES, FIRST STORY AND CITY OF SISTERS MAYOR, CHUCK RYAN, HELP LOCAL FAMILIES RAISE THE WALLS OF THEIR NEW HOME

(SISTERS, Ore.)— In response to the growing need for affordable housing, the non-profit, First Story, Hayden Homes, NeighborImpact and other local partners are collaborating to help three families move into new homes in Sisters. A special, social distancing, wall raising event was attended by future homeowners and their family members, City of Sisters Mayor, Chuck Ryan and members of the Hayden Homes and First Story teams.

“As Mayor, I was very proud to participate along with Councilor Preedin in interviewing three separate families and being a part of their dream of homeownership,” said Chuck Ryan, City of Sisters Mayor. “It is a very rewarding experience and we look forward to continuing this valuable partnership with First Story as the McKenzie development progresses.”

The non-profit, First Story, is addressing the affordable housing crisis through an integrated approach that focuses on providing a hand-up to homeownership. Each family is grateful for the safety, health and happiness that owning a home brings. A special key ceremony and welcome home celebration will take place in August.

“We’ve been dreaming and working towards owning a home for almost 20 years,” says Debra Donati and Nathan Barbeau. “We saved every extra penny that came our way and we even postponed getting married. Unfortunately, as we inched closer, Nate was in a devastating hit and run and our dream slipped away. First Story gave us hope again.”

“I’ve been doing everything I can – saving & working hard- to raise my family in my hometown of Sisters,” says Jacob Christensen. “But, it’s so expensive that it meant my family of 6 sharing one bedroom at my Mom’s house. So, we were forced to move, and our daughter now spends over an hour commuting to school each day. Next year, thanks to First Story, she will walk to school.”

“As a single-dad, I work hard day in and day out to provide the best life for my son, Conner. Moving to Sisters means he will finally know something other than apartment living and what being a part of a community means,” says Nathaniel Grimes.

TWO LOCAL CENTRAL OREGON FAMILIES RECEIVE WARM WELCOME HOME

BEND, Ore.— In response to Central Oregon’s growing need for housing affordability, Hayden Homes, Simplicity by Hayden Homes and other partners have joined forces to provide affordable homeownership opportunities for two local Central Oregon families. In the wake of the Coronavirus, the critical role that a home plays in the safety, health and happiness of families in our community is even more evident.  Two special, social distancing, home dedications and key ceremonies were attended by homeowners and their families.

Meet the Gilman’s:

The Gilman’s have experienced challenges and hardships most of us cannot begin to understand. It has involved the very real struggles of a rare but serious genetic disorder that will require a lifetime of support and supervision for their daughter Frankie. Through it all, their positivity and love continues to shine on. Frankie has given their family and all whose hearts she touches the amazing gift to practice patience, tolerance, courage, compassion, strength, perseverance, intention, beauty, and most importantly; unconditional love every day.

The Gilman’s goal has always been to provide their family with a home of their own, but the road to homeownership has been long, rocky and full of uncertainty with traditional routes to qualify for a home loan, not possible.

“Paul, myself and the kids are blown away! What an incredible gift our family has been given,” said homeowner, Courtney. “The opportunity to provide our children, especially Frankie, a home that we can call our own is a dream that seemed unattainable until now. First Story has given us the most amazing opportunity. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

Meet the Magee’s:

Rheanna Magee, a single mother, was born and raised in Bend, Ore. and is a very active participant in the community raising her daughter Isabella. In addition to working a full-time job, Rheanna is also attending Oregon State University majoring in Human Development and Family Science, with a minor in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. Her goal is to continue to graduate school where she will specialize in counseling adolescents, as she feels that it is such an important, unique time in their life.

Growing up Rheanna’s family moved frequently and never really had a home that was theirs. “Owning a home means everything to me,” said homeowner, Rheanna. “Renting feels very unstable and insecure. I have worked very hard over the past few years to rebuild my credit and to get to a point where we could purchase a home of our own. This is a dream come true and has brought a sense of stability and safety to my daughter and I.”

Inspired by Hayden Homes’ belief in building a strong community, First Story was founded to help deserving individuals and families in need achieve the dream of home ownership. Since 1998, First Story has provided 84 families across the Northwest with a hand-up to homeownership. This is the non-profit’s 22nd home in Deschutes County that will be sold through a 30-year, zero-interest, no-down loan to a deserving family. First Story works hand-in-hand with Hayden Homes, their trade partners, and generous donors who contribute the materials, labor and cash needed to get a First Story home built.

“First Story offers a unique approach and a step in the right direction to addressing critical housing affordability challenges,” said Steve Klingman, President of Hayden Homes. “The effort is a testament to the giving spirit of our team members, our community and the positive results that come when we work together on creative solutions. We are excited and proud to help welcome both the Gilman’s and Magee’s home.”

Hayden Opportunity Fund for Housing Affordability AWARDING $150,000 IN GRANTS TO LOCAL GOVERNMENTS AND STAKEHOLDERS FOR LEADERSHIP IN HOUSING AFFORDABILITY IN OREGON, WASHINGTON AND IDAHO

BEND, ORE.— Housing affordability in the Pacific Northwest has reached a crisis point. The impacts are felt by hard-working families who’ve done everything right but, can’t achieve the American Dream. The governments that serve them must lead the way, developing new solutions that ensure prosperity is attainable for all. But, they can’t do it alone.

Introducing The Hayden Opportunity Fund for Housing Affordability, an initiative of Hayden Homes, which announced today at the League of Oregon Cities Conference that in 2020 it will award $150,000 in grants to three cities, county governments or stakeholder agencies in Oregon, Washington and Idaho for their efforts to solve the housing affordability crisis in their communities.  Grants in the amount of $100,000, $30,000 and $20,000 will be awarded for the top three most innovative solutions.

“At Hayden Homes, we have been right in the heart of the housing availability conversation for 30 years,” said Dennis Murphy, CEO of Hayden Homes. “We’ve made it our mission to work with communities to design high quality neighborhoods and homes that offer homeownership to families across the income spectrum. But as the years have gone by, it’s gotten harder and harder to achieve.  We need leadership from local governments and stakeholders who refuse to leave this problem for others to solve, and with The Opportunity Fund, we will do our part to support and recognize that leadership, innovation and collaboration.”

In 2020, the fund will award grants for the creation of projects or programs in partnership with community stakeholders who are also highly invested in solving the housing affordability crisis such as private businesses, local agencies, action councils, business associations, and non-profits. The fund will specifically recognize those projects or programs that develop innovative solutions such as; code and zoning changes, re-prioritization of land for home-building, permitting process changes, reduction of regulatory barriers, reduced infrastructure requirements, creation of incentives, pilot projects, offering credit or reduced fees to builders serving community interests, as well as creative financing for homeowners.

“It’s time for creative actions that work,” said Deborah Flagan, Vice President of Community Engagement at Hayden Homes. “At Hayden Homes we are proud to support local government and stakeholders as they take on the mantle of leadership to achieve real results that make our communities more inclusive and affordable for everyone.”

A diverse panel of judges will be announced early next year, if you would like to nominate a judge, please contact us.  The program details, requirements and guidelines will be available Fall 2019 with applications being accepted in Spring 2020 at HaydenOpportunity.org.

The government or organization earning the largest grant will receive an engraved trophy, a ceremony at a public meeting of their choice, a party for their staff and public recognition throughout the Pacific Northwest for their leadership in housing affordability and availability. Hayden Homes Announces New Sisters High School Arts Competition

Winner to Receive $2,500 Scholarship
Sisters, Ore.—Hayden Homes announces today a new opportunity for the youth of Sisters Country to contribute to the region’s vibrant arts scene. Building on last year’s successful showing of art in the Village at Cold Springs model home, Hayden Homes will sponsor a new contest for high school juniors and seniors this spring.
The winner will earn a $2,500 scholarship from Hayden Homes to be awarded upon graduation.
To participate, students will first design a 2D sketch of an all-original art work. The Sisters Arts Association judges will review the designs and select a winning concept. Hayden Homes will commission the piece, which will then be displayed in a Sisters community model home beginning in summer 2019.
“Students are so extremely fortunate in Sisters to be supported by special programs that enable them to express their own art,” said Bethany Gunnarson, Sisters High School arts instructor. “This Hayden Homes contest ups the ante and will encourage new focus and intensity in our arts students as they hone in on their unique creative style.”
Students have until March 15 to draft their proposal, which will include a sketch of the piece along with a description of the artwork, execution strategy and supply needs. A team of judges from the Sisters Arts Association will complete their review of the artwork.
The winning concept will be announced the week of March 18. The art piece will then be commissioned by Hayden Homes for completion by May 10.  The student artist will share their work at a special “Meet the Artist” night at the model home to kick off a season of display alongside a framed photo and bio.
“It is Hayden Homes’ honor to partner with Sisters High School and the Sisters Arts Association to showcase the incredible talent of Sisters Country youth,” said Geoff Harris, Regional Director for Hayden Homes. “We are excited to showcase such a unique piece of local artwork in our model home.”
