Valentine’s Day for the Kids
If you are a parent, Valentine’s Day is an exciting opportunity to plan something special for the little ones in your life. Here are some ideas for some fun Valentine’s Day activities that all kids will love.
Decorate the Home
Decorating is one of the easiest, and most enjoyable, ways to celebrate Cupid’s holiday. You can purchase Valentine’s Day-themed decorations from your local party supply store, or you can make your own. Purchasing red and pink paper and cutting out heart shapes is fun and easy to do, and children will love decorating their hearts with glitter, ribbons, and markers and crayons.
Make Cards
Another sweet way to celebrate the holiday with kids is to ask your children to make Valentine’s Day cards. Cards can be made for friends or family, or for those who need a little love in their life. Consider partnering with a nursing home or elderly care center near you, and get a full list of residents. Then, plan for your children and your children’s friends to make Valentine’s and deliver them!
Fun in the Kitchen
Kids love to participate in food prep, especially when yummy ingredients are involved. Plan a fun meal or a special treat for your little ones, and work with them to make it fun. For example, you can make mini sandwiches cut in the shape of hearts and serve with pink lemonade. Another fun idea is thinly slicing apples and cutting them in the shape of a heart. There are many other foods that can be cut into heart shapes.
Focus on the Love
“Houses are made of bricks and beams, homes are made of hopes and dreams” sums up the love inside the family home. Acts of service and kindness on Valentine’s Day are a terrific way to show members of your family how much you care. For example, making a Valentine’s Day themed breakfast or writing a heartfelt letter to your significant other or helping a family member cross off some things on their to-do list are all simple ways to make home a happier place.
Create a Valentine’s Day Scavenger Hunt
If you have the time, creating a Valentine’s Day scavenger hunt for your little ones can be a very exciting surprise. Make the clues heart shaped and Valentine’s Day themed, and consider having the prize at the end be something activity-related, such as a trip to the movies or your child’s favorite outdoor excursion.
Host a Kid-Friendly Valentine’s Day Party
Depending upon the age of your children, you may consider hosting a Valentine’s Day party for your little ones. Play love-themed games, and serve a variety of Valentine’s Day-themed treats and goodies. Have the children participate in a fun craft or activity during the party, such as decorating cookies or searching for hearts in the yard or home.
Make Valentine’s Gifts for Family and Friends
Homemade gifts from children are the best. If your child has anyone in particular for whom they want to get a Valentine’s Day gift, there are a number of crafts that are perfect. Consider popsicle stick picture frames (decorated with hearts of course) with a photo of your child, garden stones with hand or footprints, drawn pictures, paper and origami flowers or other designs, and more.
At Hayden Homes, we hope that you and your family have a happy Valentine’s Day filled with plenty of love this year!
