\nExtreme cold weather can be hard on you and your home. Hayden Homes would like to remind you to follow these steps to minimize some of winter’s biggest threats to your home when freezing\u00c2\u00a0 weather, snow and ice hit your area.
\nReduce the risk of pipes from freezing:
\n\u00e2\u2014\u00a6Close or cover foundation vents under house
\n\u00e2\u2014\u00a6Disconnect and drain garden hoses
\n\u00e2\u2014\u00a6Cover outside faucets with insulating foam covers
\n\u00e2\u2014\u00a6Fit exposed pipes with insulation sleeves or wrap
\n\u00e2\u2014\u00a6Turn off sprinkler system and blow compressed air through the lines to drain them
\n\u00e2\u2014\u00a6Open cabinet doors under sinks
\n\u00e2\u2014\u00a6Allow hot and cold faucets in kitchen and bath faucets to slowly drip
\nFurnace:
\n\u00e2\u2014\u00a6Set your thermostat to a constant temperature and avoid turning the heat down
\n\u00e2\u2014\u00a6Replace furnace filters
\nReduce the risk of ice dams:\u00c2\u00a0 Ice dams occur when water builds up behind a blockage office
\n\u00e2\u2014\u00a6Make sure your gutters are clear of leaves and debris
\n\u00e2\u2014\u00a6Keep the attic well ventilated so snow doesn’t melt and refreeze on the roof’s edge
